I’ve Made Mistakes - But I’m Still Loving My Business 18 Years On

Show notes

This week’s guest on ScaleUp Radio is Matt Roper, the founder and CEO of The Buying Support Agency.

In essence, they help businesses by giving them the leverage of a large company when it comes to buying from suppliers.

The business started as a consultancy in 2002 - and that arm of the business still operates now, but the buying side became the main focus in 2005 and continues to grow to this day.

Matt is fascinating both as a person and as a CEO. He’s quite single-minded in his mission to scale up the business - but it seems to be working.

We also discussed:

- The real strength of outsourcing. Very little is being done within the business. Bookkeeping, web design and marketing is all outsourced.

- How to create a robust feedback loop so that both clients and suppliers can let you know how they’re feeling, allowing you to make changes to the relationships if necessary.

- Why every business needs to think about their environmental impact, and how this should become a part of your Value Proposition

- The importance of looking to grow your revenue streams. Examining your business and seeing if you can add one more

As you’ll hear, Matt is actively looking to remove himself from the business. He’s worked hard to take himself out of the day to day - but he wants the business to continue without him.

It’ll be fascinating to see how he achieves it.
