MUGAS Are The Main Part Of Our Business

29 Apr 2019

Show notes

Apr 29, 2019

Debbie Mann is a director of a the kind of company that sounds a little unusual at first, but you’ll soon realise that you’ll have seen their work almost every day.

Parallel Lines do exactly what they say on the tin, as it were. They mark lines. Whether it’s sports pitches on grass, safety lines in a factory - or even MUGAS (I’ll let Debbie explain that in our conversation) then it’s likely, certainly in the UK, that Parallel Lines will be involved.

It’s a business that has grown organically over the past 6 years or so. Starting out as a grounds maintenance business, it morphed into it’s current state through Debbie and her husband pushing themselves into areas that, whilst connected to grounds maintenance, were risky moves - that ultimately paid off.

In this episode, Kevin talks to Debbie about her ScaleUp journey, and the lessons that she has learned along the way.

In this conversation, Debbie covers:

 - How important the foundations of the business are

 - Why the company doesn’t have regular fixed contracts

 - How to achieve business success without advertising

 - Building expertise in your industry from scratch.

 - The value in being clear when communicating with the clients

Debbie is someone who is clearly passionate about her business, and has gained a lot from her ScaleUp journey. A fascinating conversation about an unusual business.

She can be contacted at the website www.pl-linemarking.co.uk or on email: info@pl-linemarking.co.uk

ScaleUp Radio is hosted by Kevin Brent — founder of Smart90, author of the Entrepreneurial ScaleUp System (ESUS), and the same Kevin who works directly with founders inside the G90 Summit.

The Summit is a structured half-day — quarterly, virtual via Zoom — where founders and their teams get clear on the three to five things that must happen in the next 90 days, and leave with a plan committed to making them happen.
